Leveraging the existing German transmission grid with dynamic line rating

The integration of large shares wind and solar power into the system benefits from transmission network expansion. However, construction new lines requires long planning phases is often delayed by citizen protests. As an non-invasive alternative, Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) offers potential to leverage existing grid dynamically adjusting line capacities prevailing weather conditions. In this study, we present first investment model that includes DLR in a large-scale with real-world data high temporal resolution.
